Howard's 2010 Movie Rankings
During the summers of 2008 and 2009 I ranked summer blockbusters based on how much fun I had in the theater. This is a hugely subjective scale. In late 2009 some readers asked me to further complicate things by ranking every movie for an entire year in the same way.
This list is the result.
Did I mention that it's subjective? Or that it's kind of hard to quantify "fun" or "enjoyment" using numbers? Horrible films may rank highly. Art films may plummet. I try to be honest on this hugely biased scale, but I saw 36 movies in 12 months, and that's a lot for a guy who doesn't review movies for a living. Remembering exactly how much fun I was having at a March matinee while writing up a December blockbuster is no mean feat.
My threshold of "this film was awesome" is just above Iron Man 2. That movie was ALMOST awesome. My threshold of "I wish I hadn't bothered seeing this" begins at The Last Airbender and goes down. I almost wish I hadn't seen Skyline, but it was fun to mock.. There are a lot of films in between those two positions, and yes, I honestly enjoyed all of them. Just not enough for me to want to go back and see the movie again.
