Howard looks up in awe at the beauty of what is apparently NOT a cathedral... just a big church.Since posting yesterday's entry I've had more than a couple of people tell me that a) the "old castle" is still all there -- I just didn't see all of it, and b) the cathedral I thought I was in isn't a cathedral at all.

Most Americans know Nuremberg for the war-trials following World War II. This is a shame, because the city has a history that extends back some 1500 years or more. The hill the castle is on is made of sandstone, and there are five stories worth of ancient cellars dug in there, some of which have since been turned into pubs. You can get beer in places claiming to have founded their brewery in the 9th century A.D. (although I'm told the beer itself is not quite that old.)

I found an art-supply store that sells Copic markers, which are probably the best markers for coloring original artwork. I also found that they don't take Visa. I'm coming home with no Copic markers, and a healthy re-appreciation for the practice of filling one's pockets with local currency before going shopping in a foreign land.

Today is my last day here in Nürnberg, and I'm afraid I'm not going to get to see much more of the town. It's a shame, but when you get right down to it there's no way I could spend enough time here to properly absorb a sesquimillenium of history. Why try?

By the way, today is also my brother Randy's birthday. He's almost 30. If you're looking for a freelance flash programmer, go look for him first. Or just email him and wish him a happy birthday.
