I Shall Wear Midnight
I love Terry Pratchett's work. His latest book, I Shall Wear Midnight, is the fourth to feature Tiffany Aching, who is currently my favorite Discworld protagonist.
If you haven't read any Tiffany Aching books, you should probably start with Wee Free Men. It's a fine novel. Obligatory completionism aside, I Shall Wear Midnight gives just enough back-story that you can get by without having read Wee Free Men, Hat Full of Sky, or Wintersmith, and it's definitely my favorite of the four.
Saying that feels somehow unjust, because all four books are wonderful.
Terry Pratchett writes the "stand up and cheer" moments brilliantly. He is also brilliant for every other kind of moment. This book had me laughing, crying, crying for joy, and smiling in triumph, and that was just the first 50 pages. My only regret at having read those 50 pages is that I finished the book, and now I can't get it for Christmas.
I may re-read it then anyway.
