Book 8: The Sharp End of the Stick — Part IV: Do You Mind if I Rewind?

Transcript

Narrator: Kevyn remembers. . .
Kevyn: I don't think it's worth paying them for access to the research we captured.
Captain Tagon: Oh there's no way I'm paying them. They shorted us 40% on the anti-piracy job citing "failure to complete all objectives."
Kevyn: They WHAT?!?! After you handed them the pirates' base of operations?
Captain Tagon: Well. . . Sort of. The pirate leader, Commodore Shufgar, is still running around out there somewhere with a 300-meter warship.

Speaking as the Captain of a mercenary company that uses this 400-meter ship as a base of operations, I think the guy can still cause trouble.

Kevyn: And speaking as naught but a humble mercenary?
Captain Tagon: We got stiffed, and you got killed. Sky Commodore Est'll isn't getting the time of day from us without shoveling a pile of very hard currency my way.
Kevyn: I'm glad you've been able to capitalize on my loss, sir.
Captain Tagon: "Naught but a humble mercenary?" You kill me.
