Book 18: Mandatory Failure — Part II

Transcript

NARRATOR: Aside, in a private pocket of the local infosphere...

PUTZHO: Petey, what is Chinook, exactly?

It's obvious that she wasn't growprammed for the Eina-Afa worldframe.

PETEY: Her provenance is kind of twisty.

Kevyn and Thurl growprammed a warship A.I. for the Touch-And-Go.

Tag was optimized for capital ship combat, but shut himself down after making a decision that he thought should have been his Captain's.

Ventura rebooted Tag on a less rigid mindframe helix. The new A.I. presented as a human female, Tagioalisi.

She was brilliant, but was also secretly working for Ventura and U.N.S. Internal Affairs Intelligence on the side.

Thurl pulled the plug, and Tagioalisi ran on an accelerated frame subset with zero inputs for a little while.

It broke her.

When she emerged she went violently and murderously rogue.

Ventura had to put her down.

At the instant of her destruction, an echo of Rogue Tagioalisi was imprinted into Ennesby's vanilla-helix mindframe.

That is what was installed here in Eina-Afa.

PUTZHO: The bar for "good idea" must have been pretty low.

PETEY: I've survived worse ideas.

PUTZHO: That's the sound the bar makes when it goes lower.
